If your club runs its teams on Teamer, you will have had an email on Wednesday 5 August. If you are a parent or a player rather than an organiser, you may not have, and there is a reasonable chance nobody at your club has mentioned it yet.
Teamer closes on Monday 5 October 2026. Pitchero, who bought Teamer in 2018, have decided not to keep investing in it. Their wording is direct and worth quoting rather than paraphrasing:
After careful consideration, we have regrettably concluded that we are unable to make the level of long-term investment required to continue operating Teamer sustainably.
That is a fair thing for a company to say, and they have given two months' notice, which is more than some do. The problem is not the decision. The problem is the sentence further down the same page.
There is no export tool
From Pitchero's own shutdown FAQ, under the question "Will I be able to download or export my team's information before Teamer closes":
Unfortunately, there are no export tools to make a team's events and members lists portable to a new system.
So there is no CSV, no download, no "email me my data" button. On 5 October your member list, your fixture history, your event attendance and every message thread stop being accessible, and the only copy of any of it is whatever somebody at your club typed out by hand before the deadline.
For a lot of grassroots clubs, that member list is not a convenience. It is the only place the parent contact details for an under-12s squad have ever been written down.
Some of it has already happened
The date most clubs have in their head is 5 October. The date that actually matters is closer than that, because parts of Teamer are already switched off. Pitchero list these as removed ahead of the closure:
- New downloads of the Teamer mobile app
- New user registrations
- New team creations
- New payment provider accounts linked
Read the second one again. A club cannot sign a new player onto Teamer today. In late August, with seasons starting, that is not a footnote. If you are recruiting at the moment, you have already lost the tool you were going to use to do it.
Teamer Premium subscriptions are being cancelled during September so that billing does not roll into October. Worth checking your own statement in early October rather than assuming it went through cleanly.
The bit that is not as bad as it sounds
One piece of good news, and it seems to be catching people out in the wrong direction. Teamer Payments is built on Stripe, and the Stripe account belongs to your club, not to Teamer. Your transaction history, your payouts, your payer records: all of that lives in Stripe and is completely unaffected by Teamer closing.
So if your treasurer is worried about losing the year's financial records, they are not in Teamer to lose. Log in at dashboard.stripe.com with the account the club connected and export from there.
Two things to check now rather than in October. That somebody at the club can still get into that Stripe account, because it is often set up by a treasurer who has since handed the role on. And that any money Teamer collected but has not yet paid out has actually landed in the club's bank account.
Pitchero's "no export tools" line is accurate, but it is about members and events. It is not a statement about your money, and several clubs have read it as though it were.
What to do this week
Copy your member list out. Everything else on the list below can be reconstructed from memory or from a fixture list. Contact details cannot.
Do it in a web browser rather than the app, because Teamer's web member screens show more per person than the app ever did, and work through one team at a time. Teamer teams were never linked to each other, so nothing is going to reassemble a club-wide list for you afterwards.
We have written the full version of this up as a step-by-step guide, with a spreadsheet template that has the columns already set out: what to save before Teamer shuts down. It is written to be useful whether or not you end up with us, because a few thousand volunteers have the same unglamorous job to do in the next few weeks and nobody had published the instructions.
One thing the guide covers that is easy to miss: Teamer only ever stored a name, an email, a phone number and a role. No dates of birth, no emergency contacts, no medical notes, no consents. Most club platforms need at least some of that, so while you are asking your members to move, ask them for the rest of it in the same message. Doing it once now beats chasing it one parent at a time in November.
On where you go next
Pitchero are offering Teamer users a discount code to move onto Pitchero. That is a reasonable offer and for plenty of clubs it will be the right answer. Two things to weigh before taking it.
Your data does not carry across to Pitchero either. The migration deal is a discount, not a transfer, so the manual copying-out job is the same whichever platform you land on.
And check that your sport is covered properly. Pitchero list the sports they directly support as football, rugby union, rugby league, cricket, hockey, netball and basketball. Teamer's user base is a good deal broader than that list, and notably includes a lot of GAA clubs.
If you want to know how ClubPal compares as a replacement, including where a lighter app would suit your club better than we would, that is on the Teamer alternative page. ClubPal is free to set up and free to run, with 20p + 3.5% per transaction on money your club actually collects and nothing at all in a month where it collects none, so there is no cost to rebuilding your teams now and taking your time over the decision afterwards.
Whatever you choose, do the copying first. That part has a deadline and it does not move.
