Skedda and AllBooked by Skedda

Two products, one booking engine

Skedda now sells under two names. Skedda is the workplace product, aimed at desks and meeting rooms. AllBooked by Skedda is the same booking engine packaged for sports and community venues, and it is the one a squash, tennis or badminton club will be pointed at. On Skedda's own pricing page AllBooked is listed only as "Talk to Sales"; the published tiers live on allbooked.com.

Those tiers are $99, $149 and $199 a month, in US dollars, billed annually. The entry plan covers up to three spaces, so a two court club sits on it comfortably. That is the first thing worth saying plainly: a small volunteer club pays the same $99 a month as any other venue on that plan, whether its courts take £200 a week or nothing at all in January.

The second thing is that the subscription is not the whole cost. Payments run through Stripe Connect, and Skedda's support documentation says your "payment processing costs under Stripe Connect are designed to closely match Stripe's standard list pricing for all countries". No rate of their own is published, so the honest way to budget AllBooked is the subscription plus Stripe's list price, which on a UK card is 1.5% + 20p.

The arithmetic here is unusually simple, because the fixed part of both fees is the same 20p and cancels out. ClubPal costs exactly 2% more per pound processed (3.5% against Stripe's 1.5%), and AllBooked costs a subscription ClubPal does not charge. So the crossover sits at 50 times the annual subscription, whatever that subscription happens to be. On the $99 entry plan that is about £43,900 of card payments a year. Figures below are annual, for a club on that plan.

Read the last row first. A six court centre turning over £60,000 pays us more than it would pay AllBooked, and we would rather you saw that here than found it out later. The crossover is the number that matters: work out what your club takes by card in a year, and if it is under 50 times AllBooked's annual subscription then ClubPal is the cheaper of the two. Three things sit outside the table and all three favour ClubPal, so treat the crossover as a floor rather than a precise line. Refunds: our whole fee comes back when you refund a booking and Stripe's does not, which matters more on courts than on almost anything else, because court bookings get cancelled constantly. Card mix: Stripe charges 2.5% + 20p on an EEA card and 3.15% + 20p on an international one, against our flat 3.5% everywhere, so a club with overseas members closes most of the gap. And the subscription is billed annually in US dollars, so a UK club pays twelve months up front and carries the exchange rate on top of the sticker price.

1. Check what you are locked into

AllBooked bills annually, so find out where you are in the term before you plan a date. There is no cost to setting ClubPal up alongside it in the meantime.

2. Export your bookings and customers

Pull your customer list and forward bookings out of AllBooked as a spreadsheet. Any format works, we will map the columns.

3. Set your courts up once

Each court with its own availability, peak windows and cancellation rules, plus separate member, junior and standard prices. This is an afternoon, not a project.

4. Add the rest of the club

Memberships, sessions and a website are already included, so the things currently living in a spreadsheet or a second subscription can come across at the same time.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Skedda for a small club?

For most small clubs, yes. AllBooked by Skedda starts at $99 a month billed annually, and payment processing sits on top of that. ClubPal has no subscription at any club size and charges 20p + 3.5% per transaction with card processing included, so a club that takes nothing in a quiet month pays nothing. The switch stops paying off once a club is processing around £43,900 a year by card, which is where AllBooked's entry plan becomes the cheaper of the two.

What does AllBooked by Skedda cost?

The fixed 20p is the same on both sides and cancels out, so ClubPal costs exactly 2% more per pound processed (3.5% against Stripe's 1.5%) and AllBooked costs a subscription ClubPal does not charge. That puts the crossover at 50 times the annual subscription, whichever plan you are on: about £43,900 of card payments a year on the $99 plan, £66,000 on the $149 plan and £88,200 on the $199 plan. Under that figure ClubPal costs less. Over it, AllBooked does.

Can ClubPal do repeat or recurring court bookings?

No. A member cannot hold a standing weekly slot in ClubPal, and AllBooked can do this. Blockouts will reserve court time for club nights, leagues and maintenance, so the club-level cases are covered, but a recurring member booking has to be made each time. If a standing slot per member is central to how your club runs its courts, that is a real reason to choose AllBooked.
