Most of the questions a committee asks are simple to say and slow to answer. How many renewals are due next month? Who has stopped coming on Tuesdays? What did the summer ball actually take? Each one used to mean an export, a spreadsheet and half an evening.
ClubPal now runs an MCP server, the open standard AI assistants use to connect to other software. Add it to your assistant as a connector, sign in with your normal ClubPal login, and it can look up your members, memberships, sessions, bookings, events and payments while it answers you.
The real change is what it can join up. Your assistant already reads web pages, spreadsheets and documents. With ClubPal connected, it can put your membership records next to a league results page, a coaching rota or your club’s own style guide, and do the cross-referencing a volunteer would otherwise do by hand.

Last season’s results, age graded
One of the first clubs to connect did almost exactly this. The league results were on the league’s website. Dates of birth were in ClubPal. Nobody had ever joined the two, because it meant matching a hundred names by hand.
Their AI assistant read the results pages, matched each runner to a member, worked out their age on race day, added a five-year age category, age graded every run and ranked the lot. Then it laid the tables out as images the club uploaded straight onto a page of its ClubPal website.
ClubPal supplied the members. The rest was the assistant doing what it already does, with the one piece of data it never had before.

Catch the renewals before they fail
Auto-renew only works if the card on file still does. Ask who is about to fall through, and the assistant runs the same renewals forecast the membership pages use, then lists the people behind the number.
It can read the ClubPal docs as well as your data, so the reminder it drafts explains the renewal process accurately. It does not send anything: you copy the draft into an email yourself.
How many should I expect at Tuesday track, and who used to come most weeks but hasn’t been since August?

22 booked against a capacity of 30. It usually runs at 24 to 26 on the night (median 25), so plan for about 25.
Four people came at least twice a month from April to July and have not been since: Jo Hartley, Ben Adeyemi, Lucy Moore and Ian Grant.
Know who is coming, and who stopped
Session leaders want a number before they set up, and committees want to know who has drifted away before they are gone for good. Both are sitting in your attendance records.
The assistant looks at how the session has actually run over recent weeks, not just today’s bookings, and can compare this quarter against the last to find the regulars who have gone quiet.
If it is in ClubPal, you can ask about it
The connection belongs to one admin and acts as them. Everything it answers comes from a read-only lookup, limited to the fields ClubPal chooses to share.
There is no tool behind the connector that writes anything, so there is nothing to misfire. Ask it to cancel a session and it will tell you it cannot.
An admin with the System Administrator permission switches on Allow AI Assistant Connections? in Admin > Settings. Until then, nobody at the club can connect.
In your AI assistant’s settings, add a custom connector with the address https://mcp.clubpal.app/mcp. Pick your club, sign in as you normally would, check the profile it will use, and click Allow.

Questions about AI and ClubPal
What is an MCP server, and why does it matter?
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard AI assistants use to connect to other software. ClubPal runs an MCP server, so an assistant such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini can look up your club’s members, memberships, sessions, bookings, events and payments while it answers you, instead of you exporting a spreadsheet and pasting it in. ClubPal is the first platform for volunteer-run clubs to offer an official one.
Which AI assistants work with ClubPal?
Any AI assistant that lets you add your own MCP connector. ClubPal uses the open MCP standard with a normal OAuth sign-in, so it is not tied to one company: ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini all support MCP, though which of their apps and plans let you add a custom connector varies. You add https://mcp.clubpal.app/mcp and sign in with your ClubPal login.
Can the assistant change anything in ClubPal?
No. The connection is read-only. It can look things up, but there is no way for it to edit a member, take or refund a payment, cancel a session or send an email. If you ask it to, it will tell you it cannot, and point you to the admin page that does.
What can it see?
Only what the admin who connected it can see. It acts as that admin, with that admin’s permissions, checked again on every question. An admin without payments access gets an assistant that cannot answer payment questions. Card details are never shared, whatever the permissions.
Where does our members’ data go?
Whatever the assistant reads is sent to the company that provides it, such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Google, and handled under your account with them. That is why AI assistant connections are off for every club until a System Administrator turns them on: it is the club’s decision, not one admin’s, and worth checking against your privacy notice first. Turning it off stops every connection straight away.
Does it cost anything?
Not from ClubPal. The connector is part of ClubPal like everything else, with no subscription and no add-on fee. You need an account with an AI assistant that lets you add custom connectors, on whichever plan you already use.
Can members or coaches use it?
Not yet. Connecting needs the Access Administration permission, the same one that opens the admin area, so it is for the committee and admins who already run the club in ClubPal.
