What Spond costs, and what you would pay here
Spond Club has no subscription. Payments cost 20p + 2.5% in the UK with Stripe card processing included, and a club website is £19 + VAT a month. Here is the whole comparison, including where Spond costs a club less than we do.
The short answer on what Spond costs
The Spond app and Spond Club are both free to use, with no subscription at any club size. What a club actually pays is the fee on money it collects: 20p + 2.5% per transaction in the UK. Spond states that this includes the cost of its payment provider, Stripe, so there is no separate processor bill arriving alongside it, and because UK payments are handled through Spond's Norwegian parent company no UK VAT is added to the fee. A Spond club website is the one thing charged separately, at £19 + VAT a month, which is £273.60 a year.
ClubPal is priced the same shape: one all-in fee, no subscription, no separate processor bill, at 20p + 3.5% per transaction. On the rate by itself Spond is cheaper, and the first row of the cost table below says so rather than hiding it. What moves the total is what sits outside the fee. A club website is included on ClubPal, and facility hire, session passes and a proper club shop have no Spond equivalent at any price.
The other difference is what happens when money goes back. Spond keeps the transaction fee when you refund a member. ClubPal returns the whole fee, in proportion to the amount refunded, so a rained-off session that you refund in full costs your club nothing at all.
Worth saying plainly before any comparison. If these are the things your club needs most, Spond may well be the better fit.
The distinction is breadth and what you keep. Everything ClubPal builds is on every account, and a refunded payment returns the fee with it.

The numbers, including where we lose
The honest version, because a comparison page that only shows favourable numbers is not worth reading. Spond charges less per transaction than ClubPal does, and both rates are all-in, so neither club gets a separate card processing bill on top. These figures are annual, for a club taking £15,000 across 300 payments averaging £50.

Read the first row before the other two. On transaction fees alone Spond costs a club less, because 2.5% is a full percentage point below our 3.5%, and for a club that wants no website and never issues a refund that is the whole story. The picture changes once a club website is in the budget, since Spond bills £273.60 a year for one and ClubPal includes it, and it changes again once refunds are involved, because ClubPal returns the fee and Spond does not. Two things the table cannot show: Spond applies its fee per product within a payment request rather than once per request, so a request bundling several items carries the 20p more than once, and the website figure assumes a club that cannot reclaim VAT, which is true of most unincorporated grassroots clubs.
