Club chat that
belongs to the club
Conversation attached to the session or event it is about, channels whose membership maintains itself from your groups, and a moderation queue when something goes wrong. Nobody has to share a phone number to take part.
The club conversation should not live on somebody's phone
Almost every club runs on a messaging app somebody set up years ago. It works, right up until it does not. The person holding the admin rights leaves. A parent joins the under 12s group and can see every number in it. Somebody asks a question about Thursday and the answer is forty messages up, under a photo of a dog. Nobody can moderate anything, because there is nothing to moderate with.
ClubPal puts the conversation where the thing being discussed already lives. A question about Thursday training goes on Thursday training. A committee gets a room only the committee can open. Membership is worked out from your groups every time somebody opens a channel, so adding a member to a squad puts them in the squad chat and removing them takes it away again, history included. When a message needs dealing with, any member can report it and it lands in a queue.
A group per team, set up by whoever needed one first, administered by whoever happened to create it. It works until somebody leaves, and then it quietly becomes a liability.
The conversation belongs to the club rather than to an individual, and its membership comes from the records you already keep.

Questions about club chat
Can ClubPal replace our club WhatsApp group?
For club business, yes. A conversation sits on the session or event it is about, and committees, squads and coaching teams get their own channels. The difference that matters is ownership: a WhatsApp group belongs to whoever created it and leaves with them, whereas a ClubPal conversation belongs to the club and is controlled by the Manage Chats permission. Clubs usually keep a social group for the things that are not club business, and move anything organisational across.
Do members have to share their phone number?
No. Members take part as their ClubPal profile, so nobody sees anybody else’s phone number by joining a conversation. This is the single biggest difference from a messaging app, and it matters most for junior sections, where a parent joining a team group would otherwise be handed the contact details of every other family in it.
Who can see a chat channel?
Only the members it is sourced from. A channel holds no member list of its own: its roster is worked out live from the member groups you point it at, every time somebody opens it. Add a member to the Committee group and they have the committee channel on their next page load, along with everything said in it before they arrived. Take them out and the channel and its history stop being reachable for them.
Can we moderate what members post?
Yes. Any member can report any message, with an optional reason, and reports gather in one queue for anyone holding the Manage Chats permission. From there a moderator can dismiss the report, hide the message reversibly, or delete it permanently. Only the first report on a message raises an alert, so several people reporting the same thing does not become a pile of notifications. A moderator can read a channel in order to judge a report without being a member of it, but cannot post in it.
Do we have to turn chat on for everything at once?
No. Session chat, event chat and channels are three independent switches at Admin > Chat > Settings, and chat is off until you turn it on. You can run a committee channel without opening up every session, or the other way around. Turning a switch back off hides those conversations rather than deleting them, so turning it on again brings the history back.
Can members choose what notifies them?
Yes. Every conversation has its own mute button, so muting Thursday’s session says nothing about any other. What reaches a member overall, and whether by email, bell alert or push notification, is set once at Profile > Notifications, where chat is its own category. Reactions are deliberately quieter than messages: the author is told by a bell alert only, never by email or push.
Does chat cost extra?
No. Session chat, event chat, channels and the moderation queue are included in every ClubPal account, at every club size. There is no subscription and no per-member charge. ClubPal only charges a flat fee on payments your club takes, so a club that uses chat and takes no money pays nothing.
